Educational Qualifications:

  • Ph.D.: Obtained Ph.D. in Zoology from Utkal University, after pursuing research at Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, India in the year 2005. Thesis entitled "Molecular characterization of serum immunoglobulins from Asiatic catfish"

  • M.Sc.:Passed Post Graduation degree in Zoology in the year 1998, with specialization in fish biology, from Visva-Bharati University, India.

  • B.Sc.: Passed Graduation degree with honors in Zoology from Utkal University, India in the year 1994.

    Experiences:

Independent aquaculture expert to WorldFishCentre, Penang, Malayasia from 1st Jan 2017. Working as a national expert in a WorldFish centre-Odisha Govt. project targeting to double the inland fish aquaculture production of Odisha, India, through policy and technology intervention at Govt. as well as farmers level in a sustainable way. Successful in producing Carps and GIFT through preventive aquaculture, without disease prevalence and without antibiotics use, keeping production cost low to the tune of 0.8USD/kg.

Researcher in Fish immunology and vaccinology group in University of Tromsø, since December 2013; Target: Study the functional pathway of T cell transcription factor and cytokines to develop correlates of protection for better vaccine efficacy and use of epigenetics in disease prevention. We are developing some molecular adjuvants for next generation DNA vaccines.

Worked as a research technician in Norwegian Cod breeding Centre, Tromsø, Norway from March 2013 to July 2013, working in production of rotifers and development of techniques for better and efficient rotifer production in closed circulation system.

Worked as a team member in a consortium work organized by world fish and headed by Nofima AS, Norway, for study of market trends of Hilsa fishery in India.

    • Postdoctoral researcher in “proteomics and immunological effects of Bt crops in interacting animals and human” at GenØk - Centre for biosafety, Tromsø,successfully purifying cry1Ab/Ac from genetically modified Bt Maize (MON810), developing diagnostics for Bt toxin and anti Bt antibody in serum. Comparing performance of ELISA kits in different labs around the world for detection of GMOs
    • Research technician in Nofima Marine, Tromso, Norway for seven months working in cod breeding program and larval rearing and achieving in increased survival of cod larva.
    • Worked as a proprietor cum scientist in planning, designing and conducting many pilot experiments, independently and as a business leader in coordination with my coworkers, before commencing commercial productions. This resulted in a startup company with fish seed production, larval rearing and health management techniques. During this time developed a good network of fish farmers and some NGO as their honorary scientific advisor cum trainer.
    • One year teaching experience in postgraduate level at Utkal University affiliated college in India, teaching microbiology, molecular biologyand immunology.
    • Worked for completion of Ph.D degree until May 2005 “Purification and characterization of serum immunoglobulins from Asiatic catfish, magur ( Clarias batrachus).” at Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Kausalyaganga, Bhubaneswar, India. During this study, common proteomics and immunological techniques such as affinity chromatography, gradient native PAGE, SDS-PAGE, enzyme digestion, antisera development in Rabbit and guineapig,HA test, western blot, ELISPOT,SRID and ELISA tests were employed. Maternal antibody transfer was studied successfully for prospect of maternal vaccination. Immunohistochemical study established the presence of spleen and gut associated lymphoid tissue(GALT) in vivo.
    • Worked as a research scholar in APcess(ICAR) funded project entitled "Enhancement of seed production of Asian catfish, Clarias batrachus using sustained hormone preparations" from 25/08/2000 to 21/06/04 at CIFA and developed mass scale seed production techniques for magur.
    • Worked as a research scholar in APcess funded project entitled "Hormonal control of breeding and seed raising in some cultivable carps and catfishes" from 19/01/2000 to 25/08/2000 at CIFA and succeeded in mass scale fry production of Heteropneustis fossilis.
